“I have always been fascinated by the way words can be used to bring both memories and emotions to life. Being able to paint a picture with words and writing your own story is what fascinates me the most about songwriting.” Ida Emilie says, “When I was younger, I would spent all my waking hours writing poems and literature, which was always one of my favourite things – apart from singing. I soon discovered the world of singer-songwriters, and seeing how artists were able to add music to their poems, really captivated me, and I think that’s initially what made me want to become a songwriter.”

In the late summer of 2014, Ida Emilie released her debut EP, entitled “Roots”, produced by her brother, Anders, and recorded in a living room in downtown Copenhagen. Ida Emilie explains, “The EP itself is to serve as a demo project – a way to share with people, the kind of music I write and the kind of music I wish to make. My dream is to be able to bring the songs into a professional environment, because being independent really complicates things. Everything is so expensive and you basically have to do all the things on your own – but it also makes it interesting and challenging.
