It's been an encouraging first year for the Austin based indie-folk-americana duo Dawn and Hawkes. After a happenstance encounter, songwriters Miranda Dawn and Chris Hawkes joined together to multiply their talents and formed a male/female fronted band touring the country and sharing songs, shows, and everything in-between.
Dawn and Hawkes first appeared in front of a large audience at the Kerrville Folk Festival, where Dawn was awarded as a finalist in the New Folk competition for emerging songwriters. By June, they had recorded and released their self-produced EP, GOLDEN HEART, featuring signature harmonies and an indie-folk sound influenced by Americana, country-rock, and classic Beatlesque-pop. Written and recorded from their home in Austin, the debut album has earned the respect and admiration of songwriters such as, Jimmy Lafave, Glen Hansard, Josh Weathers, Bill Chambers, Kacy Crowley and Charlie Mars who the duo co-wrote with for their upcoming full-length release.
What is now a full-time touring and musical partnership, began with modest expectations. "I was out listening to the blues at a little juke-joint in East Austin and asked this pretty girl to dance" says Hawkes, "We were having a good time dancing and found out we were both singer-songwriters." Dawn continues the story saying, "Our timing and rhythm were just in-sync and when we added harmonies, songs, and guitar playing, it all went together - like dancing." The two also write for SongwriterWeekly.com a collaborative website of songwriters which Dawn founded and Hawkes contributes to as the sites graphic designer and showcase producer.
"The two voices intertwine as if made to sing together" (Serenity Fisher)
"Well crafted songs with beautiful vocal harmonies. Great Texas Music!" (Bill Chambers)
"They're amazing...my favorite kind of music" (Kacy Crowley)
